THE OPENING DAY OF GUN SEASON

In 2007 GOD gave me a gift

The night before, getting every thing together and thinking about the next morning hunt is just as much as exciting to me as being there.  Setting my alarm, getting into bed and lying there and running everything through my mind on what I needed to do.  Before I knew it the time had come to get up.  But I did what everyone has done.  Thinking that you can lie there just a couple more minutes.  Then my phone rang.  It was my father calling to ask me if I was hunting today.  Then I knew I was late.  Rushing to gather my stuff, loading it into the truck and I was on my way.  By the time I got there I didn't even have to use a flashlight to get to my stand.  Tell you the truth.  I was so mad at myself, I felt like going home.  Finally getting to climb into my tree stand and collecting my thoughts, it was time to put on the game face.  The woods were starting to brighten.  The birds were starting to sing and the squirrels were just getting on my nerves.  Time was just creeping by.  Then about 7:10 am, out of the corner of my left eye I seen movement.  Second-guessing myself I saw it again.  It was a deer moving through the trees.  Not knowing if it was a doe or a buck.  My heart started to pound, palms of my hand were starting to sweat.  As I got to watch this dark large shadow move through the trees I noticed the deer was going to come right by me.  The deer was on the trail that ran right in front of my tree stand.  As it got closer the more the fever was growing inside of me.  Patience at the time was not on my side. Then all of a sudden the deer stepped out from the trees.  Standing no more than forty feet from me was the buck of my life, standing broadside to me.  Running ten thousand thoughts through my mind, shaking so hard that I thought my tree stand was rattling but come to figure out it was my teeth chattering.  I could hear my heart beat every time I took a breath.  I raised my gun to my shoulder.  Trying to zone in on the hot spot right behind the shoulder.  The gun and my hands were shaking so hard I could not pinpoint my shot.  So I pulled the trigger, hoping to GOD that I would connect.  The buck jumped and ran another thirty feet farther away from me, stops and looked back.  I had missed,  My heart sunk.  Loading another shell in to the chamber of my fathers military issue 44-40 Henry rifle and roaring with rage.  I let another bullet fly.  This time it was right in the breadbasket.  The buck jumped, it looked like ten feet in the air.  Running away from me at the speed of light, the buck stops.  The buck was standing there not moving.  Then all of a sudden he started to sway from side to side.  Stopping himself with his font legs, his back legs gave out on him and he fell to the ground.  At that moment I did not care who was in the woods.  I was doing a victory dance in the tree stand.  After I tried to get the adrenaline rush under control.  I climbed down from the tree stand.  Now let me tell you.  Walking to that buck, there was no ground shrinkage.  The buck was the biggest perfict ten point I have ever seen.  The buck scored 170 class.  Field dressed out at 184 pounds. Taking in part  to the harvest of this Monster buck, I owe to my family, friends and BAG-R-BUCK.

Thanks so much for letting me share my story.

Thank you, Joshua E. Perry
